Although you may have been to the main sites in Tuscany there are many more beautiful corners, breathtaking landscapes, and picturesque towns to explore. Our travels will take us along the ridges of the Apennine mountains into the verdant forests of the national park of Casentino, to hidden monasteries and small villages, and to where the Arno river springs forth. History, castles, saints, hearty food, as well as kind people and good wine, abound!
From Florence we will hike the surrounding mountains, and have a cooking lesson in a country kitchen on the Florentine hillsides. The following day we will transfer to Vicchio where we will spend our next two nights and from which we will visit the peculiarities of the Mugello.
On our transfer to the Casentino we will hike through the Rufina wine terroir on our way to the town of Stia, nestled in the Casentino Valley and source of the Arno river. Wonderful forests, medieval castles and hearty food here.
From the town of Poppi we will visit several still functioning ancient monasteries tucked into the Apennine mountains on our hikes through extensive varied woods and forests. Drop off in Florence.
