Fly Fishing in the Northern Lake District

The Italian Lake District stretches across Northern Italy from Piedmont to Lombardy and the Veneto, from sea level all the way up into the Alps, where we’ll hike during our our stay in an alpine village. We will also touch three of the lakes on our tour: elegant Lake Como lined with rainbow-colored villas and gardens, expansive Lake Maggiore with two palazzo topped islands, and tiny mystical Lake Orta surrounded by thick green forests. In the mountainous surroundings we will find some wonderful rivers offering days of idyllic fly fishing opportunities!

We’ll hike through pristine forests, fish wonderful trout, savor delectable norther Italian meals with exquisite vino and absorb the beauty and culture of this gorgeous mountainous area.  For those of you traveling with companions that are not into fishing, we will offer alternative activities every day. Tour Overview

Day 1-3

We meet in elegant Bellagio, placed picturesquely on Lake Como and with a local guide and private boat visit some of the most beautiful villas and gardens. There are lovely hikes in the hills above town and in the neighboring lakeside villages which we’ll reach by foot and ferry.

Day 4-6

Our next three nights are spent in the small town of Macugnaga, nestled high in the Alps which border the entire Lake district. There are three days of hikes to the slopes of Mt. Rosa, to mountain passes, alpine huts and small villages. We’ll stop en route at Lake Maggiore.

Day 7-10

Our last three nights will be at the smallest of the lakes, Lake Orta, known for its abundance of saints and miracles. We’ll visit lacy forests and wild artisans, as well as hike in the Valley Strona known as the “Cinque Terre of the Mountains.” Drop off at Milan airport.
