Fly Fishing in Slovenia

This is a fly fishing, hiking and cultural tour that takes us through the wonderful land of Slovenia: a paradise of snow capped mountains, turquoise rivers, clear lakes, green forests and unspoiled plains. Independent since 1991, this small country is bordered by Austria, Italy, Hungary and Croatia, capped by the Julian Alps to the north, and the Adriatic Sea to the south. We’ll hike through pristine woods, fish wonderful trout in historical rivers, savor hearty Slovenian meals, and absorb the nature we immerse ourselves in wherever we go. Tour Overview

Day 1-3

We’ll meet in Ljubljana for a historic tour, and a trip intro with our fishing guide. The following morning we ascend to the alpine landscape of beautiful Lake Bled where we have two days of fabulous fishing in the Sava Bohinka and the Radovna rivers. For those not fishing there will be a boat ride and lovely walks, plus visits to a small pretty town, a medieval castle, a Gothic church, and a working dairy.

Day 4-6

We’ll head over the 5,000 ft Vrsic pass with stunning views, and spend two days in the Triglav National Park. Fishing will be in the famous, untamed “emerald” Soča river; and the Idrijca affluent. For those not fishing there are gentle nature walks, and visits to a bee keeper, a museum, food venues and a cooking lesson to learn Slovenian specialties.

Day 7-10

Our next two nights will be spent in a luxury hotel housed in a medieval castle, perched on an island in the Krka river. We will be casting in the Unec river, the small waterfalls and fast runs of the Krka, and the enchantingly beautiful Kolpa river, all renowned for their great fishing. For those not fishing there will be some easy hikes, and visits to small historic villages, and a final day of pampering at a well known spa.
