This trip takes us from the mountains to the sea. We start in the Appennini range in the center of Tuscany and wind southeast, hiking through thick chestnut forests, hill top republics, and venerable castles before heading north to Emilia Romagna to experience the breathtaking art, architecture and golden mosaics of Ravenna, and finish with a hike around the unique salt lagoon of Comacchio on the Adriatic Sea.
Meet in Bologna and transfer the small medieval village of Palazzuolo Sul Senio for the next three night. Our family run historic hotel known for its cooking will fuel us for three wonderful days of hiking through chestnut forest.
The hilltops surrounding the town of Pennabilli, where we will be staying for our next three nights, are dotted with castles, churches and wonderful views…and even a Michelin star restaurant.
We’ll have a quick tour of the tiny Republic of San Marino on our transfer north to Ravenna, our home for the next three nights. Famous for the stunning golden mosaics in its ancient churches we’ll also spend a day hiking around the salt lagoons of Comacchio on the Adriatic coast. Drop off in Bologna.
